In this month's newsletter - Election fever : Tackling the national debt
Latest news from the website
Argyle Investment View

Volcano eruptions… three party politics… Goldman Sachs…one might easily be forgiven for wondering what will unexpectedly pop-up next to change our perceptions of the 'status quo'…!!!

As the general election takes on a whole new slant (particularly after the televised party leader debates) a hung parliament now seems increasingly likely and there is much speculation regarding the potential impact that might have on our economic life, as individuals and collectively.

National debt image

One certainty is that the next government will finally have to tackle our huge national debt… which undoubtedly means 'no pain without gain'.

Argyle has given a great deal of thought about whether we should take some defensive steps with your money, whilst the election is in process. However, we have concluded that nothing is certain and now is not the time for a knee-jerk response. World stock markets are still positive and already seem to have decided that life will effectively go on, as normal, whichever party is elected.

Ultimately, all governments need businesses to prosper… to improve employment and thereby generate more income… which means more revenue from taxation! Some volatility in the markets is likely over the coming weeks, but we believe it will not be prolonged and the country will continue on the road to recovery.

Broadly speaking, our view on future investment is that emphasis should shift more towards developing economies and we will therefore outline our precise recommendations for your portfolio shortly after the results of the election are known.
